MARS Team Crazylegs Classic 2008 plaque
The first MARS teaM in the history of MARS started formation on 03/21/2008 and can be seen below. This team competed in the 2008 Crazylegs Classic where 16 of 18 people were present on race day. There was no team scoring for this event; however, its main purpose was to bring more benefits to team members, and to introduce the team aspect of MARS for the first time. Later on, there will be more MARS team races as will be seen in the team section. Team participants for the first race were from many places in the madison area to as far as Kenosha, WI. People of various experience levels and ages were part of the team.
Kim seems to be making great progress with each race. Her 2008 year started off with the New year's day dash, and then she went on to improve her season's start by 5 minutes with an all-time PR of 39:31 in the 8k in at the Crazylegs Classic . Kim has also done other races outside of the series where she has shown similar progress also during the 2008 year.

Comments from MARS:
Matthew comes from a distance where he makes occasional trips to the Madison Area. He has officiated/helped in track meets both near Milwaukee and the Madison Area. He has competed in many distances since his early 20s, and has some impressive race-walk records.
Ron has been competitive in the series for a long time. Ron was looking for increased competition in his age group for the 2008 year, and he found Scott Jones to be a good competitor who joined the series in 2008.
Dana has been our top competitor in the his age group since joining the series in 2008. He has demonstrated great fitness both in running and in strength, and to some extent this comes as no surprise since he has a history of a wrestler. Additionally, he was the overall top male winner in the press and run combo.

Comments from MARS:
Tracy was good competitor in her age group in the 2006 and 2007, and still holds up her status. Tracy is one of our most enthusiastic people in the series, and to complement that, in the 2008 year we are making strides to enhance the series.
Tom started running when he was 44 and is quite competitive in the local area for his experience level. As a first year competitor, he has already competed in almost every race within the first half of the series.
Brian has probably been encouraged more during the 2008 year because of his wife Tracy and his three younger kids. We think that we will see Brian at more races this year.
Robin joined the series in the 2008 year and started with the Freeze for Food with an excellent performance in tough conditions. She was a top competitor in the first half of the 2008 series.
Daniel was well known in the series after his completion of all 13 events in the 2005 series. He was second to Ron Ofstun, a very tough competitor. Daniel has been looking to get into races again when possible after temporarily putting his typical racing trend on hold for a year or two.
We think Peter is looking to keep in shape by persistent participation at races. We will see how well things work for him this year, and we wish him good luck.
Barry made the top three in his age group in 2007 by two points. Barry did favor shorter distances recently, but this year he is making a few attempts at longer distances. This year, Barry is helping MARS with a few of the items on our list.

Erik has been in the series since the begining and he is known for participating in multiple events on race day. He has lived in the Madison Area for decades and has served as a good example of someone who keeps maintaining an active life while holding a multi-job work schedule. Erik placed 3rd in the series for his age group in 2004 and 2006. Erik was the first athlete in the history of the series to be featured on our athletes section. He was first featured on 04/16/2008.
